Phils Offer Josh Hamilton 3 Yrs, $80 mil
The Phillies needs an outfielder; Josh Hamilton needs a home. Yesterday, WIP’s Anthony Gargano reported that the Phils were offering the 2010 AL MVP a three-year contract worth about $80 million–five million more than what Seattle is reportedly offering. Texas, where Hamilton has played since reviving his career in 2008, is also a top contender. Why Hamilton should love it here: the hitter-friendly power alleys at Citizens Bank Park. Why he might not: We’ve got a lot of bars. Remember, Hamilton’s available for cheap mostly because teams are scared stiff about his drug-addled past and occasional alcohol-fueled relapses. Frankly, this might not be the best place for him to start anew. [Crossing Broad]
