Drag-Racer’s Widow Sues South Jersey Speedway for $50 Million

A Brooklyn woman has filed a lawsuit against South Jersey’s Atco Speedway. She’s seeking $50 million for the speedway’s negligence, which she says resulted in her husband’s death. Back in 2010, her husband, Jose Cruz, was drag-racing at Atco when he crashed into a wall, which caused his car to catch fire. There was supposedly an ambulance and a crew on site capable of dousing the flames, but the vehicle wouldn’t start. Cruz’s son, Atco’s owner, and other crew members ran to the car to put out the flames, but Cruz suffered second and third-degree burns all of his body and died a year later. [Daily News]
