Miss’d America is Back

Carson Kressley and other celebrities will be in A.C. for the 2012 pageant

Larry Sieg, president of the Greater Atlantic City GLBT Alliance, held a press conference last week at Boardwalk Hall to announce details about the Miss’d America 2012 Pageant. Not only will Dancing with the Stars castoff and one-time Queer Eye Carson Kressley be hosting, but The Weather Girls’ own Martha Wash of “It’s Raining Men” fame will be featured in the show – along with Erika Schiff and the Melanie Rice Orchestra.

Miss’d America was relaunched after a hiatus for many years, having gotten its start in the early 1990s as a parody to the mainstream Miss America pageant which was also created in A.C. It had been a popular fundraiser for the South Jersey AIDS Alliance. For many years, Philly’s own Sandy Beach not only hosted the comic pageant, but also wrote the show.

But there was a controversy earlier this year when it was announced that the longtime drag host (Beach’s real name is Robert Hitchen) would not be returning to the pageant. Sieg had released a statement explaining that the format of the pageant would change, focusing on contestants and featuring a “celebrity” host to take Beach’s place.

Tickets go on sale Oct. 22 at the Boardwalk Hall Box Office and Ticketmaster.
