Court Throws Out Vince Fumo’s Sentence

Upholds conviction, but tosses out "lenient" sentence

The former PA state senator was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after being convicted of corruption in 2009, but that sentence fell short of the usual time dished out to those convicted of similar crimes. Today, the U.S. appeals court threw out the sentence that prosecutors called “unduly lenient.” Prosecutors wanted a minimum sentence of 15 years, considering that Fumo’s 137 counts of fraud typically land someone behind bars for 21-27 years.
