Gingrich Says He Would Slow Down Gay Rights

The presidential hopeful makes no bones about being anti-gay

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who is making a bid for president, openly admits that if elected he has no intention of supporting LGBT rights – including adoption rights and marriage equality legislation. Gingrich claims that the majority of the American people don’t support these “values.” We think Gingrich must have missed that recent study saying that more than half of Americans actually do support same-sex marriage.

He also missed the memo about the separation of church and state, saying, “My emphasis would be pro-classical Christianity,” during an interview with Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association. The fact that Gingrich even gave this notoriously anti-gay organization the time of day is detrimental to the great strides gay rights activists have been making recently, including lifting the ban on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, rejecting the Defense of Marriage Act and passing marriage equality legislation in several U.S. states.
