Emelia & Jay
Five years ago on New Year’s Day — nearly nine years after becoming best friends at the Johns Hopkins orientation for incoming Philly-area students — Emelia Argyropoulos and Jay Bachman looked at each other and finally realized they should be together. “Yes,” says the bride, “it was definitely one of those ‘About time!’ moments for everyone who knew us.” After that moment — and a surprise proposal (she found the ring in the glove box of a new car Jay had just bought her) — they tried to set a date, but their busy schedules (she’s an ob-gyn resident at Penn; he’s a program manager for a defense contractor) kept thwarting any would-be wedding plans. After nearly a year of this, their moms stepped in and took the reins, and the end result — albeit on a rainy spring day — was a wedding filled with love, breathtaking decor and rich Greek traditions. “The whole day was just wonderful,” says Emelia. “So much more than I wanted — and I didn’t even know I wanted it!”
