Cabinetmaker Adam Rung puts history on the table

THIRD-GENERATION FURNITURE maker Adam Rung began his apprenticeship at age four in his parents’ Chambersburg woodshop. Now in his own Port Richmond studio, Rung crafts classic Windsor chairs and pencil-post beds, and works with clients on custom built-ins like bookshelves and staircases. His work takes cues from traditional Shaker and Colonial influences, exudes old-world craftsmanship, and still fits naturally — and timelessly — into design present. Here, his curved cherry table with walnut accents is poised to serve in an entryway or dining room, and his sturdily crafted walnut box with bird’s-eye maple detailing offers a spot for jewelry or keepsakes. $1,650 for table and $300 for box, by Adam Rung Woodworks, 3211 Cedar Street, 215-681-3354, By appointment only.
