Pulse Style: Ragas Report: Shop Talk: Beyond Basics

When was the last time you scored a pair of coveted Frankie B. cargo jeans or a chic ruched gold leather Lauren Merkin clutch … on South Street? If the answer is “never,” that’s about to change, thanks to the luxe, eight-month-old boutique Beyond Basics. Owner Stacey Dobbins, a Cheltenham native with a degree in fashion merchandising, stocks the goods of a true style maven: Swingy embroidered skirts, brocade blazers by True Meaning, shoulder bags by Tano, cozy knit wraps by Nigel Hamill, and handmade beaded halters — exactly the kinds of sought-after, small-label items that fly off the racks at Barneys and Henri Bendel. The shop’s decor is sleek and minimal, with pale oak floors and stark white walls. All the better to show off merchandise that truly stands out among sneaker emporiums and record stores, a Vespa dealer, a cozy new yoga studio … Hey, maybe this hip little boutique isn’t so out of place after all.
