The shiny new Piazza Pod Park is set to open later this month, with Philly favorites and a few newcomers selling food and drink from several colorful pods. Now, we have one more beloved vendor to add to that list: Essen Bakery.

Essen’s pod is located in the kids’ area of the space, which includes playground equipment as well as the nursing pod. The bakery will serve coffee and espresso drinks from Elixr as well as a selection of pastries and toasts from the menu at its East Passyunk flagship. Inside the pod, they’ll will offer staples like challah, rugelach, babka, and other baked goods for sale.

The bakery will join Kaplan’s, a century-plus-old Jewish bakery a few blocks from the Piazza Pod Park, in the neighborhood. (Kaplan’s is kosher; Essen isn’t.)

Hours are expected to be around 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. There’s no opening date set yet for Essen’s pod, but du Plessis is hoping to have the outpost up and running sometime in late May or early June.
