MANNA’s 2nd Annual Guac Off is Back

Get ready to rumble (or at least get your stomach’s rumbling) on Sunday, June 22nd, for MANNA’s 2nd Annual Guac Off. The event will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sonesta Hotel. Competitors from all over Philadelphia, young and old, pros and newbs, will be fighting for the title of Best Guacamole in Town. The competing bunch includes guac-connoisseurs Jose Pistolas’s Adan Trinidad, who was awarded with a People’s Choice Award 2013, and Guerilla Ultima’s Robert Leggett, who was awarded with a Blind Tasting Award 2013. And returning to the competition is MANNA’s youngest competitor, 9 year-old Allison Flam.

Yet the competition goes far beyond the winner. MANNA works to provide those at nutritional risk due to life-threatening illness with meals that are plentiful in both good taste and nutrients. Executive Director Sue Daugherty said, “MANNA works wonders by supplying therapeutic nutrition to the critically-ill, so it makes sense that we’d celebrate a great food source like avocados, packed with vitamins and the source of so many health benefits. The fact that it’s delicious is a great side benefit.”

The lucky judges include Tracy Davidson, Emmy-winning journalist and co-anchor of NBC10 News Today, Roberta Pipito of Homemade Delish, Patty Jackson from WDAS 106.3 FM and Keith Lucas, MANNA Executive Chef and Food Network’s “Chopped” alum.

And if you’re looking to attend, tickets can be purchased at the door, online or by calling 215-496-2662, ext. 115. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. May the best guac win.
