Northern Liberties Original Is Now Bourbon and Branch

One of the first reasons to venture to Northern Liberties was Liberties Restaurant. But that was back in the nineties and that rose has long lost its bloom. Now the bar and restaurant is being remade as Bourbon and Branch.

Alex Carbonell is the chef and owner of the new establishment. He has previously been in the kitchen at Lola’s in New Hope. Carbonell will be serving up pub fare with a twist like lamb bourguignon shepherds pie and tikka masala mussels.

The bar will offer 80 different whiskeys, all served in one ounce pours so customers can try more. Seventeen draft beers will be available as well as a cocktail menu featuring house-made infusions and fresh ingredients. The bar itself is an altar, nabbed from a decommissioned church at 10th and Green.

Upstairs, live music will be the draw. Initially, live performances will be scheduled Thursday through Saturday. Eventually Bourbon and Branch hopes to expand the live music to nightly.

The bar and restaurant will be open seven days serving lunch and dinner. On weekends, look for “Bourbon & Branch Burlesque Brunch.”
