Free Sandwiches Today!

Jake's Sandwich Board hosts a porky promotion to celebrate its grand opening

If you’re in the vicinity of 12th and Sansom today, starting at 11 a.m, you may be able to score a free pork sandwich at the brand spankin’ new Jake’s Sandwich Board. The new sandwicherie from Gary Dorfman, who owned the now-shuttered Jake’s Philadelphia Cheesesteaks in Liberty Place, and Sean Stein, previously of Red Sky and Pearl, focuses on gourmet sandwiches (see the menu online here). To celebrate their grand opening today, they’re giving away free roast pork sandwiches with roasted red and green peppers, sharp provolone, fried pork skin cracklings, plus optional horseradish and hot peppers for folks who like it spicy. They’ll be carving the pork for the sandwiches from a whole roasted pig prepared by Hollywood Meats in the Italian Market; the free sandwiches will last as long as there’s still meat on the pig. Speaking of that pig, the owners made a video of their pig scouting trip — click through to watch it (Warning: watching footage of whole roasted pigs is not for the squeamish).
