Today’s Daily News Cover Is Excellent

God bless the Daily News. (Also, the story is about a woman who says her breasts were burned from a hookah after a pole dancer knocked it over.)

If you’ve ever seen the New York Daily News or the New York Post — or really, most tabloid newspapers — you know one thing about them: They are ugly as sin. The design of both the News and the Post have been stuck in the ’80s since … well, since the ’80s. This is one thing Philadelphia can hold over other cities: Our tabloid newspaper is beautiful.

Today’s Daily News is an example: What a fantastic cover. It’s not “A COUPLE OF BOOBS” level, but it’s pretty good.

Here’s the story, by Daily News pun master Stephanie Farr: A woman at the Trilogy Nightclub & Hookah Lounge at 6th and Spring Garden — the former Palmer Social Club — was sitting at a “feeble” table when someone dancing on a pole knocked a hookah into her, burning her breasts.

This is not in dispute, I guess. But the owner tells the Daily News she and her friends got free admission the rest of the night because she said she couldn’t see, and she came back into the place several times after the incident. Or, as Farr writes, “the club’s manager said she’s making a mountain out of a molehill and the suit is a booby trap.”
