The sun will eventually come out, and when it does, it’ll probably be just in time for the PHL Innovation Picnic. You know, that Navy Yard event that basically everyone in Philly’s startup community attended last year? It’s back for a second year next month, and tickets are already on sale.

The early summer shindig is meant to gather the region’s tech and entrepreneurial communities for celebration and bonding, according to the event’s organizers. So that means lots of games, food, drinks and hopefully sunshine will be on hand.

And meanwhile, proceeds for the event will benefit three local nonprofits: computer science education program Coded by Kids, Camden youth development organization Hopeworks ‘N Camden and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship program.

Last year, about 900 tech and startup community members made their way down to the Navy Yard and raised more than $10,000 for three nonprofits — iPraxis, Spark and TechGirlz.

And like last year, the 2018 picnic will give entrepreneurs a chance to flex their competitive muscles. Philly Startup Leaders will organize field day activities, where more than 20 companies will compete to be named “Field Day Legend.” PSL will donate a portion of the Field Day proceeds to the winning team’s local charity of choice. To see last year’s victor, check out these scenes from the 2017 picnic.

The event wouldn’t be possible without the handful of organizations that come together to organize it. They are Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies (PACT), Philly New Tech Meetup, Philly Startup Leaders (PSL), PIDC, Startup PHL, University City Science Center, Venture for America, and Waterfront Ventures.
