Philly Near Bottom in Tech Job Postings, Searches

Philadelphia may have a growing tech industry, but it’s still far away from some of the leading cities in terms of job searches and job listings. That’s according to a new study from online search engine Indeed.com.
Philly ranked 19th overall in the number of tech jobs postings and 23rd overall in jobs searches.
The top job seeker destinations:
- San Jose
- San Francisco
- Seattle
- Austin
- Salt Lake City
The top cities for job postings:
- San Francisco
- San Jose
- Seattle
- Boston
- Austin
But Philly did emerge as a top three city when it comes to searches for jobs in three different programming languages: CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. For PHP, Philly was the No. 1 city. Indeed provided this explanation:
Those programming languages “all interact with HTML and are focused on building web pages and web interfaces. Philadelphia is in the top three fastest-growing cities for all three of these languages. This may indicate that job seekers in the city are more focused on web programming than other types of software development.”
Some other notable figures from the study: Philadelphia ranked 25th in software job searches per million (2,558) and 20th in software job postings per million (38,247).
