Eagles Wake-Up Call

Each morning during training camp, we’ll be bringing you the Eagles wake-up call with links and notes from Lehigh.

Brian Dawkins may be a few years removed from his Eagles playing days, but his word is still gospel in Philly. He was on 97.5 The Fanatic yesterday and gave his thoughts on Michael Vick’s actions, words and vulnerabilities.

“Mike does not know how to fall,” said Dawkins. “That’s one of the things that I said,  ‘If you get a chance to take a shot at him, take a shot at him because when he jumps he doesn’t know how to fall properly; he’s probably going to clip something.”

Dawkins went on to say that the more mature Vick will realize that ducking his head into traffic for a few extra yards is not worth it, and he’ll start stepping out of bounds more.

WHAT YOU MISSED

Dawkins isn’t the only one talking about Vick’s style of play. As we know, the POTUS (you’re right, Sheil, that is fun to write!) has asked that No. 7 slide. Vick says he’ll do him one better – he’ll slide for Barack Obama on the very first running play of the season to let the President know that he’s listening.

“You think to yourself, ‘Yo, man, he’s got a point.’ If he says it then I’ve got to do it, so the first run of the year I’ll slide and he’ll know it was for him,” said Vick.

He’s got a point? Somewhere, Marty Mornhinweg just keeled over in frustration.

Sheil enters wheelhouse territory with some practice observations from the first full-squad session of training camp.

Brent Celek left practice with a mild knee sprain. He says he’s fine, but you have to wonder if we’re getting closer to Jeremy Shockey time around here.

And we continued our position-by-position breakdowns. Sheil handled the cornerbacks, I took on wide receivers.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

NFL.com had its staff come up with some bold predictions. What was Charlie Casserly’s? That the Eagles will win their first title since 1960.

On defense, they will set an NFL record for sacks by a defensive line. Trade acquisition DeMeco Ryans will return to Pro Bowl form at middle linebacker. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will be a strong candidate for defensive MVP with the Eagles using him as a press shutdown corner.

Chad Reuter of the NFL Network likes the Eagles to get to the dance as well.

Jamey Eisenberg of CBS Sports has Vick ranked as the sixth most valuable fantasy football quarterback this year. LeSean McCoy takes a back seat to Arian Foster and Ray Rice. And Jeremy Maclin is the highest ranked Eagles receiver, coming in 20th overall.

COMING UP TODAY

You mean assuming these storms didn’t wipe out the practice fields? The team has an 8:15 walkthrough in the morning. Andy Reid will address the media afterwards. Afternoon practice starts at 2:45. The full team is here, and the hitting starts on Saturday. Football.
