Low-waste living is on the rise, and for good reason: Most packaging ends up in landfills, and plastic can take up to 500 years to decompose. (Only about nine percent of plastic waste is actually recycled, BTW!) Enter refilleries, where you can buy bulk cleaning supplies, dry goods, and bath items in reusable, nonplastic containers, and shop sustainable alternatives to products typically trashed after use. Here’s where you can responsibly fill up on — and then refill again and again — everyday essentials in and around Philadelphia.

Good Buy Supply

Wife and husband duo Emily Rodia and Jason Rusnock opened their East Passyunk general store in 2020 after struggling to locally source items for their own low-waste lifestyle. At Good Buy Supply, find everything from beeswax food wraps to refillable soaps, detergents, and all-purpose cleaners. Even better: GBS is a drop-off site for Love Your Schmatte, a South Philly-based denim repair and clothes mending biz. 1737 East Passyunk Avenue, East Passyunk.

Perennial Refill Hub

Opened in March, Mount Airy’s Perennial Refill Hub is the newest of the bunch. Ray’s Reusables

Ray’s Reusables started in 2019 as an Etsy shop for cutlery wraps made from upcycled denim. When the pandemic hit, founder Ray Daly introduced a van and expanded the product line to remove the geographic barrier to sustainable shopping, then opened a brick-and-mortar in NoLibs, where you’ll find made-in-house specialties like shower steamers, reusable paperless towels, and vegan bar soaps. 935 North 2nd Street, Northern Liberties.

Yardley Refillery

The offerings at Bucks County’s first refillery run the gamut, from mineral sunscreen and insect repellent to spices and birdseed. There’s even a healthy pantry full of trail mix, oils and vinegars, and locally produced kombucha and honey. The team also offers window screen repairs, knife sharpening, key cutting, and floral arrangements. 1 South Main Street, Yardley.
