This Adoptable Pit Bull Mix Would Make One Incredible Running Buddy

Meet Lucie, a grade-A runner and a highly adoptable pit bull friend.

Here at Be Well Philly, it’s pretty obvious that we love running. Rarely do we run into an adoptable dog that loves running as much as we do, but our friend Lucie the pup might just love it more than us. This cutie found her way to the Monster Milers by way of the ACCT, where her hidden talent and passion came forward — running. She’s the perfect pal for a runner looking for a training partner than can actually keep up.

Aside from being a top-notch runner, Lucie is, obviously, super cute and looking to be cuddled. At about three years old, Lucie has a lot of love left to give in her life to her forever family. Just imagine having that face looking up at you all the time? It can’t be beat, if you ask us.

Name: Lucie

Age: Approximately three years old.

Breed: Pit Mix

Size: 41 Pounds

Running style: Lucie is an EXCELLENT runner. She’s fast, so be prepared for a possible challenge with this superstar! If left to her own pace, Lucie would likely average a 8:30 minute mile, but is happy to drop to something around 9:30 if the human runner prefers a slower pace. Lucie is an anomaly! She doesn’t pull, she doesn’t zig-zag — she stays focused on the road ahead, occasionally looks up at you to check in, but then keeps going. We rarely see dogs without running experience take so naturally to the sport, and understand that there is a human behind them that can’t stop as fast as they can! Lucie picked up cues really quickly. Put a little pressure on the leash to make a turn and she will lead you right into it. Lucie is running about two miles at a time with our volunteers, but could absolutely run a 5K, and would probably love to build up her mileage past that. Don’t worry, if you are thinking she is just too good of a runner for you and you don’t want a dog to show you up, she won’t! Lucie is happy to humor her human companions and will stop and take a break if you request it, then will pop back up and into action as soon as you have caught your breath!

Why Lucie could be the right dog for you: She’s a very happy runner and would be a great companion for someone who can already run at a fast speed, or for someone that is looking for a training partner to help improve their times! Running aside, she is a great little (well, maybe medium) gal and with further training in the home, she’ll shape up to be a real winner. We can tell that she is smart and observant as she picked up on all our running cues. Lucie has the cutest black and white coat, with an endearing large spot over her left eye and the pink of her skin showing through other places. Unfortunately we don’t have much background information on Lucie, as she was brought to ACCT Philly as a stray.

How to adopt: ACCT Philly is open for adoptions 7 days a week. You can visit anytime during their adoption hours (weekdays 1pm until 8pm or weekends 10am until 5pm) for a meet, or reach them at adopt@acctphilly.org or 267-385-3800. If you choose to go in person, be sure to bring the family and any resident dogs.

…………….

We work with The Monster Milers to profile local running dogs waiting to be adopted. The Monster Milers are a group of runners who help shelter dogs burn off  energy and get much-needed exercise by taking them on runs around the city, and they also just launched their first-of-it’s-kind Adopt a Running Buddy foster program. If you’re not in the market for a pup right now, but would still love to help out homeless dogs, you can always become a Monster Miler volunteer or foster parent. Find out more about how to get started with those processes here.
