This Year’s Philly Pride Parade Will Kick Off With a Fun Run (And Registration Just Opened!)

The Philly Pride celebrations just got a litttttle bit more festive: This year’s Pride Parade, going down June 18th, will kick off with a 1.5-mile fun run along the Pride Parade route. And psst: Registration just opened.

As you might’ve noticed, the route, ringing in at 1.5 miles, is on the short for a run — even a fun run. That’s because this year’s Pride Run Philly, for which registration opened yesterday, is actually a preview of the longer Pride Run Philly 5K being organized for next year’s Philly Pride festivities. (Yay!) While this year’s event will be untimed, folks driven by competition can get in on a Strava segment, and the run will be doling out prizes from Philadelphia Runner for top finishers. But you don’t need to be a competitive runner to join in. As the run’s website says, “We want everyone in the LGBTQ community plus their families and friends to join us.”

This year’s preview route will start at Camac and Locust Streets in the Gayborhood and take runners by the Independence Mall, the Liberty Bell and down to Penn’s Landing for the Philly Pride Festival (you can see the full map of the route here).

The event is being organized by folks from various Philly LGBTQ groups, including Lez Run Running Club Philadelphia, the William Way LGBT Community Center, Philly Pride Presents, and more, and proceeds will go to the William Way LGBT Community Center. Registration will cost you $10, then it’s $15 to get into the Pride Festival at Penn’s Landing. You can learn more and register here.
