Sad news on the local fitness-retail front: Chestnut Hill’s Indigo Schuy, a favorite for fitness gear (and Best of Philly winner!), is closing. But the silver lining on the customer’s end is that they’re having a huge sale to get rid of their merchandise.

The store sent out an email to customers yesterday saying, “It is with heavy but grateful hearts, and after much deliberation, we have decided to alter our course and will be closing the bricks-and-mortar Indigo Schuy after nearly 5 years in Chestnut Hill.” We reached out to owner Schuyler Nunn to see why, exactly, they decided to close their doors and, as she told us, they made the decision not to renew their lease for a number of reasons, the biggest being “that is has become increasingly challenging to compete with online retail.”

As she says, “As of now, we are unsure what, if any, direction Indigo Schuy will take in the future.” The store will officially shut its doors in May (date TBD), and while Nunn says an online store could take shape in the future, there aren’t plans to open one now. Starting today, everything in the store is 20 percent off, and they will continue to up the discounts until everything is sold. So if you’re on the hunt for a new spring workout wardrobe, you know where to go. The boutique is located at 8432 Germantown Avenue, and this week they’ll be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
