I have a confession to make: If you were to peek over top of my cubicle this week, you might see me sneakily trying to brush up on my salsa moves. Before you say I’m totally nuts, let me share the news: The sixth annual Philadelphia Dance Day is coming up this Saturday, July 25th!

The nonprofit festival aims to bring the community together to celebrate dance as a mode of creative expression and — this perked up our ears — fitness. You’ll have your pick of 26 free (!!) dance workshops throughout the day that are designed for participants of all levels of experience to get their groove on at. In the evening, just $5 will get you into the main event: a gala that includes more classes, a performance showcase, and the biggest dance party of the year. Whether you’re a prima ballerina or think you have two left feet, this event has something for everyone.

First things first, you need to check out the Dance Day workshop schedule, because it is jam-packed from 9 to 4 with free classes that combine technique and really fun workouts. Participating studios include Headlong Studios, Major Moment Studio, Koresh School of Dance, Studio 1831, the Christian Street YMCA, CEG Performing Arts Academy, and Step by Step Dance Expressions, with classes from Beginner Jazz to Indonesian Dance to Striptease and more. As for me, I’ve got my eye Cardio Bellydance.

After you dance the day away, you can head on over to The Ethical Society of Philadelphia in Rittenhouse Square for the culminating celebration. If I were you I’d get my ticket like, yesterday.
