Weight-Friendly Wraps

Two brands to try

Jenna Bergen

Wraps, tortillas: Whatever you want to call them, there are a lot of brands on the market—and they are not one and the same. Toss the wrong brand into your cart and a single tortilla can set you back more than 200 calories (and who really eats just one on fajita night?).

Even worse, many of the low-carb types are laced with artificial sweeteners like sucralose (aka Splenda) and are full of a long list of processed ingredients. (One of the major offenders: Mission’s Carb Balance tortillas. In addition to sucralose, they also contain hydrogenated soybean oil.)

Because of this, I am forever flipping over tortilla packages to look at the stats. Lately, there are two brands that I feel great about keeping in my cupboard: America’s Choice Gold Quality Wraps and Tumaro’s Low in Carbs Mulitgrain Tortillas.

Tumaro’s Low in Carbs tortillas only have 60 calories a pop and only 13 grams total carbs and 8 grams of dietary fiber (which means one tortilla has 5 grams of net carbs). America’s Choice Gold Quality Wraps have 90 calories, 20 grams total carbs and 12 grams dietary fiber (8 grams of net carbs). Both are great for hummus wraps or Tex-Mex nights. I pick up Tumaro’s at ShopRite and America’s Choice at Super Fresh.
