The Phils’ Secret Weapon

Chase loves it. Jayson does, too. Why you need bison (yes, bison!) in your diet

Better for you
“Bison is leaner than most beef and some chicken, is low in cholesterol, and is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids,” says Katie Cavuto Boyle, the Phils’ dietician and chef-owner of Healthy Bites ToGo.

Better-tasting
“Grass-fed bison is really flavorful,” says Cavuto Boyle. “Jayson likes bison ragu and chili. Chase loves the burgers.”

Burger recipe!
Mix 1 pound ground meat, 1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard, 1 Tbsp. low–sodium soy sauce, and salt and fresh pepper to taste in large bowl. Separate into four equal amounts; form into burgers. Grill.

Where to buy
Try Whole Foods for fresh steaks, ground meat and pre-made burgers, or sign up for Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op’s buying club for at-home delivery.

Better fuel

“Since it’s a leaner protein than beef, it’s easier to digest, which means carbs break down faster for quick energy,” says Cavuto Boyle. “It also keeps you full and helps muscles recover.”
