Chef Corbin Evans message after the jump.

As a New Orleans resident from 1999 to 2008 I feel obliged to honor the hard work of all the people involved in the rebuilding and re-creation of New Orleans. This year on the 4th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina we will be holding a community shrimp boil and fundraiser for The Brandhurst Family. I have been lucky enough to know Ray and Kay from years of shopping/volunteering and even heading the board of directors at the Crescent City Farmers Market. After Hurricane Katrina I journeyed with them and the White Boot Brigade to the San Francisco area to raise awareness of the plight of the Gulf Coast and the amazing, hard-working men and women who shrimp for a living. After hearing of Ray’s recent health issues and knowing the hardship this family has already endured after the storms I wanted to put together an event that was up to New Orleans standards.

The Shrimp Boil will be held on Saturday, August 29th at Greensgrow Urban Farm (www.greensgrow.org) from 4pm until 8pm
I will do the Shrimp Boil (with shrimp donated by Lance Nacio of Anna Marie Seafood of Louisiana’s Terrebone Basin and supported by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, Chef Frank Brigsten’s secret Boil Recipe and a Special Thanks to Seedco Financial’s Southeast Louisiana Fisheries Association Center) as well as Traditional Red beans and Rice (just like Ms. Leah Chase taught me!)
We have been offered as a donation to the event the following
*Cold Beer by The Philadelphia Brewing Company
*Cornbread and Cold Beverages by Delilah’s Southern Cuisine
*Country Fried Chicken with Special Sauce by Meme Restaurant
*Hoppin’ John Taylor’s Cole Slaw by London Grill
*Bread Pudding by Standard Tap
and much more!
We will be screening the documentary “Fauborg Treme”, A film by Dawn Logsdon and Lolis Eric Elie during the event and we have a live Jazz Band which will be playing throughout the festivities.
We will be charging $30 per person and selling t-shirts, Raffle tickets and putting out additional DONATION JARS(look for the white boots) in the hope of raising as much money as possible to assist the Brandhursts.
Prizes include Eagles and Phillies Tickets, Fosters Homewares Gift Card and A Gumbo Party for 10 at your home by yours truly, Chef Corbin Evans!
The event will be held at…
