Race for Rylie … and Other Sufferers of Pitt Hopkins

Raise awareness for Pitt Hopkins Syndrome at the Race for Rylie 5K

Though there has been only 150 documented cases as of 2010, Pitt Hopkins Syndrome affects its victims and their families in a big way, causing a score of problems that may include breathing abnormalities, characteristic facial features, and cognitive and physical impairments. In the case of Lehigh County’s Rylie Maginn, her first weeks of life were plagued by an underdeveloped heart and severely impaired hearing. Her parents, Jack and Heather, are hosting the second annual Race for Rylie 5K and 1-mile Kid Fun Run on Saturday, June 25, to help raise awareness and funds for more research on this little-known disease. Strollers and dogs are welcome, so bring the whole family to enjoy a scenic jog through Nockamixon State Park. — Kathryn Siegel
