Make Captain Planet proud this Arbor Day by joining TreePhilly and Yards Brewing Company as they celebrate the holiday with free trees, free beer and free T-shirts for during their third annual #ArbrewDay.

Here’s how it works: On Friday, April 29th from 5 to 7 p.m., you can head to one of 10 bars around the city and snag a tree to plant in your yard from the folks at TreePhilly without spending a dime. Each person taking home a tree gets a free Yards beer and a shirt that says “Drink beers. Plant trees.” Look at it like your official badge of eco-friendliness.

There are only 120 trees up for grabs this year, meaning about 10 to 12 trees will be available per bar. So if you have your heart set on taking home a new green friend, the earlier you get there, the better because; trees are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. This year’s tree bars include Frankford Hall, City Tap House in University City, Memphis Taproom, Kite and Key, Grey Lodge Pub, London Grill, Smokin’ John’s, Garage, Shake Shack in Center City and Three Monkeys Café.

The trees will range from three to eight feet tall, and each one comes in a felt container with handles for you to haul back home with you. They’re lightweight and sized to be easily transported, whether you’re walking, driving or taking SEPTA — just be prepared to get a few odd stares if public transportation is the way you’re heading home.
