Trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden Releasing Debut Album, Will Perform Two Shows in Philly

One listen to Mary Elizabeth Bowden‘s music and it’s pretty clear that this isn’t the type of trumpet you muddled with in middle school band. The Curtis Institute of Music graduate and world-renowned artist is releasing her first album, Radiance, this April, which features the works of two local Philadelphia composers: Joseph Hallman and David Ludwig. She also will be playing two Philly concerts in early March with an all-female brass ensemble, Seraph Brass.

Bowden, who started full-time college studies at the age of 14, is the winner of the 2012 International Women’s Brass Conference Trumpet Competition. She has appeared with orchestras around the world, including a stint at the Sydney Opera House, and serves as adjunct faculty for Curtis’s Young Artist Summer Program.

She’s also a member of the aforementioned Seraph Brass ensemble who will be performing two very unique concerts in Philly. The first is on March 6th at Saint Peter’s Church, which will feature a number composed for the ensemble by Hallman. The second will be a music-filled Sunday brunch at World Cafe Live on March 8th.
