Phylicia Rashad, who played Bill Cosby’s better half, Claire Huxtable, on The Cosby Show, is the latest celebrity to come out in defense of the 77-year-old comedian, calling the numerous sexual assault allegations against him a ploy to ruin his legacy.

In an interview with Showbiz 411, the Tony-winning actress said: “Forget these women. … What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”

Rashad is the second Cosby Show co-star to come to Cosby’s defense. On Monday Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played Rudy Huxtable on the show, told Wendy Williams that the claims don’t add up to the man she knows. “None of us were there; there are two sides to a story, and we are in America, and it is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

More than two dozen accusers have claimed they were sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby. He has denied all allegations and has not been criminally charged with any wrongdoing.
