Gallery Guide: Five Shows to Check Out This First Friday

Plus one on Saturday, because why not?

From Chris Peters' show at Gravy Studios.

From Chris Peters’ show at Gravy Studios.

Chris Peters @ Gravy Studio
Wisconsin-born photographer Chris Peters creates “large scale, site-specific camera obscuras” in abandoned buildings. He’s collected photos of these works for his show Public/Private. Reception: Friday, April 7, 6-10 p.m.

Poets and Painters @ Painted Bride
A group show with a twist: The artists are “four couples all sharing and interesting dynamic: one person is a painter, one person is a poet.” The dynamic duos are Ursula Rucker and Anthony Carlos Molden, Rachel Ehrgood and Jared Wood, Emily Johnson and Amanda Robinson and Dwayne Thomas and Angelica Jackson-Thomas. Awesome idea. Also at the Bride at the same time: “When Myths Meet: Franz Fox & Al Johnson.” Receptions for both: Friday, April 7, 5-7 p.m.

From David Eichenberger's show at Space 1026.

David Eichenberger @ Space 1026
North Carolina illustrator/painter David Eichenberger’s work can be a balancing act between the physical and the metaphysical, the spooky and the concrete. This show, “Constant Bearing,” features pen and ink drawings. Screenprints, letterpress prints and digital prints will be for sale. Reception: Friday, April 7, 7-10 p.m.

Wind Challenge 2 @ Fleisher Art Memorial
Group show featuring works by Debbie Lerman, Amy Ritter and Emily White. The whole show looks interesting, but I’m especially intrigued by White’s animal sculptures. Reception: Friday, April 7, 6-8 p.m.

JohnF @ Head Games
Influenced by skateboard culture, and pop culture in general, artist/designer JohnF creates order out of chaos, with intricately arranged black lines on white backgrounds. Many of his pieces demand long looks for you to completely wrap your head around what’s going on. Reception: Friday, April 7, 6-10 p.m.

Found @ Little Berlin
Okay, this isn’t on Friday, but it’s too cool to pass up on a technicality. “Found” is an “exhibit of trash and/or found objects and/or art from Kensington.” Features work by Natalie Kuenzi, Kasey Toomey, Kaitlin Pomerantz, Meghan Howland, Leon Xu, Stephanie Bursese and Will Owen and includes objects collected during a neighborhood cleanup. Reception: Saturday, April 8, 7-9 p.m.
