Kensington is on Display in the Philly Block Project

Early this year, we told you about the Philly Block Project, a collaboration between the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, photographer Hank Willis Thomas and South Kensington residents designed to capture the history and preserve the heritage of the neighborhood while connecting neighbors. Starting Thursday, September 8th, you can check out the results of the project at the PPAC Gallery (1400 N. American Street).
Hundreds of photographs of South Kensington taken by Thomas and contributing artists Wyatt Gallery, Lisa Fairstein, Hiroyuki Ito and Will Steacy will be on display through November 25th. Inside the gallery you’ll see floor-to-ceiling images that “stitch together a block of row homes,” alongside smaller, more intimate photos.
On Saturday, the Philly Block Arts Carnival, funded through a Kickstarter campaign, will pop up nearby on N. American Street, with live music, food trucks, carnival games, rides and mini-golf. There will also be an art-making tent with interactive projects led by local artists.
