7 Clues Netflix Doesn’t Know a Comedy From a Hole in the Ground

"I swear Netflix said this was supposed to be funny."

“I swear Netflix said this was supposed to be funny.”

Recently I was looking for a way to pass a rainy day and turned, as I often do, to Netflix. It then came to my attention that its “Comedy” section includes some questionable choices. You won’t laugh if you select any of these movies, but the fact that Netflix dubs them all comedies is kind of a joke in itself.

1. Ella Enchanted

Sure, watching an awkward Anne Hathaway wandering around a mythical realm and running into elves and ogres is amusing. But not, like, in an intentional way.

2. Don Jon

This movie is entirely about masturbation and Joseph Gordon-Levitt finding a sex partner that will break him of his porn addiction. If you’re laughing, it’s only the awkward kind as it gets hot and heavy and you’re sitting next to a parent.

3. Spy Kids: All The Time In The World

I mean, I guess it’s funny that someone wanted to make a fourth Spy Kids movie.

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This is the cutest story about skeletons adopting the Christmas spirit that you ever did see, but comedic? That’s a stretch. Also, why are there so many children’s movies in this section? Those little nuggets have their own category.

5. My Little Pony: Equestria Girls

Actually, I would probably watch this and laugh hysterically if only a certain substance were legal in Pennsylvania. (Weed. I’m talking about weed.)

6. Under the Tuscan Sun

Here’s part of the Wikipedia description of this movie: “The film is about a recently divorced writer who buys a villa in Tuscany on a whim, hoping it will lead to change in her life.” Maybe no one at Netflix has divorced parents, but let me assure you that “recently divorced” does not equal funny.

7. Spice World: The Spice Girls Movie

How dare anyone claim the adventures of Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger and Posh Spice are humorous? This is a serious movie. It changed lives. Get it together, Netflix.
