Everything You Need to Know About Michael Symon’s New Happy Hour

Hear “Iron Chef and James Beard Award winner” and the dollar signs may already start ca-chinging in your head, but decorated restauranteur Michael Symon just rolled out quite the wallet-friendly deal at his latest culinary hot spot.

For foodies seeking award-winning fare on a budget, look no further than the new “Symon Says…Thursdays!” menu at Angeline. The weekly happy hour special offers a variety of Italian-inspired, not-so-small plates for just $10 each. Think cheesy arancini with smoked mozzarella, perfectly grilled lamb chops or a generously sized portion of bolognese and tagliatelle.

“You can get a great nosh, enjoy some great wine or maybe a cocktail,” the Food Network star says. “You can really get a taste for all of these different things we do at Angeline.”

Opened in 2017 at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Angeline brought reimagined Italian dining to Atlantic City. The upscale space — designed by Parts and Labor in collaboration with Symon’s wife, Liz — is a far cry from red-checkered tablecloths, but each dish is rooted in the traditional foods that shaped Symon as a chef.

“The theory behind the menu is I have a mother who is part-Sicilian, I grew up in a red-sauce town in Cleveland, Ohio, and I have traveled through Italy throughout my career,” Symon explains. “What we’re giving you at Angeline is kind of the story of my life. It’s a lot of the food I was raised on both at home and in the city of Cleveland and the things I saw in my travels.”

Two choice examples include his mother’s signature “Sunday Sauce” and family lasagna recipe, both featured on the standard dinner menu. The “Symon Says” offerings, however, include several brand-new creations from the celebrated chef. Chicken parm and meatball sliders complement a selection of $4 beers. Symon also gives a nod to his Philly patrons with Italian hoagies piled high with cold cuts or sausage, peppers and onions. Guests can sample several of Angeline’s existing specialties (charcuterie and antipasti, particularly) for less, as well.

You’ll find the exclusive menu served in the restaurant’s bar and lounge area on Thursday nights. A selection of $10 signature drinks and wines by the glass accompany the food offerings. One, the Wildflower Cocktail, features locally distilled Alibi Gin plus St. Germaine, cucumber, fresh basil and soda. With those kinds of deals, it’s worth taking off a little early on a weekend getaway to A.C. — as if you needed the excuse.
