Habitat: Lofty Goals in Chester County

How Archer & Buchanan Architecture turned an old barn into a home for a modern family.

The architects restructured the West Chester barn’s first and second floors to showcase the vaulted ceiling and to create a loft next to the upstairs bedrooms.

Two upper walls were painted in vibrant shades — and one downstairs was redone in a newspaper print — to incorporate the homeowners’ eclectic style.

The retro porcelain enamel fireplace by Malm is a focal point and grounds the high ceiling.
