Many are drawn to the suburbs because they want to live in a spacious home on an equally spacious lot.

Most of the homes in the Montgomery County suburb of Blue Bell fit this description, as do the three homes featured here. All of them offer at least 2,300 square feet of space, and two of them sit on lots that contain close to an acre of land. Even the one that doesn’t contains an ample backyard.

They’re also close in age. The dowager of the bunch dates to the mid-1960s while the other two were built two years apart in the mid-1980s. All three have been very well cared for by their owners.

And two of them have something not often seen in newer homes: separate kitchens. While this means that your guests will all cram into them when you throw parties, it also means that you can cook all those really aromatic dishes without having someone ask, “What’s that smell?”

Similarities aside, each of these three have distinct personalities. You can find out more about them below.

Let’s start with the eldest of these siblings. This one has a split personality: on the outside, it’s a typical midcentury split-level, but inside, it clearly thinks it’s a center-hall Colonial. A complete remodel gave every room in this house crown moldings, even the upstairs bedrooms and the eat-in kitchen, and all the rooms on the main floor have chair rails as well. The dining room, in fact, would look right at home in a house a century older than this one. Yet all this classic elegance doesn’t come off as stuffy. The home has a number of nice touches, including fireplaces in the living and family rooms, a dual-head shower in the master bathroom, dual closets in the master bedroom, and plenty of storage space. It also has a very nice deck overlooking its big-as-all-outdoors backyard.

Speaking of nice decks, the one on the back of this home is a real winner — it also has a hot tub — and there’s a bright sun room next to it, making this home an ideal choice for sun worshippers. It also has a great indoors to go with its great outdoors. The main floor includes both a formal dining room in the Colonial style and a well-laid-out, open and informal kitchen, dining area and family room with a brick accent wall and fireplace. There’s also a den with a wet bar. The kitchen is original to the home but has a newer refrigerator, range and microwave. It’s located near the Wings Field airport.

3 Pastern Lane | 3 beds, 3 full, 1 half baths, 2,750 square feet, $524,900

This home is the youngest and largest of the three, and it’s the only one located in a gated community —the Whitpain Farm subdivision. It’s also the only contemporary home in this roundup. It has an open plan living-dining area with a vaulted ceiling, wood-burning fireplace and track lighting that lets you spotlight your good taste in art, as the current owner has done. The eat-in kitchen features updated high-end appliances, including a new six-burner gas cooktop, and Corian countertops. As do all the other rooms in this home, the family room features large windows that let the outdoors in, and it has built-in bookcases as well. The master suite boasts two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a marble-tile-surrounded soaking tub, and two separate dressing rooms, each with its own professionally organized closet. This home also has a deck and multiple patios, one covered, that let you enjoy its outdoor space. At only 0.17 acres, it’s the smallest lot of this trio, but it sure doesn’t feel small. A monthly HOA fee of $667 covers all exterior maintenance plus use of the manor house, tennis courts and pool.

This home has had three price reductions, the most recent being a $25,090 reduction on Nov. 11.
