Building-Supply Big-Wheelers Construct Baronial Manses on Bainbridge

Two of the biggest townhomes the city has seen in decades are now fully framed in Graduate Hospital.

We’re not used to thinking of Graduate Hospital as the land of million-dollar homes, but the 1400 block of Bainbridge Street has raised the bar in that department. Two new townhomes currently under construction at its east end are raising it even further.

Or would, if they were for sale.

These two cinderblock shells will by the end of the year become enormous Italianate mansions, each containing a total of 20,000 square feet of usable space – 16,000 of it indoors, and 4,000 of it outdoors on three large decks.

Landmark Architectural Design LLC principal Vincent Mancini provided us with a rendering of the project. These homes will stand out in every way from their more modern and modest Artisan Townhomes neighbors. Among the inside features: Six to seven bedrooms and eight to nine bathrooms, including an au pair suite, and a basketball court in the basement of each home. In addition to the deck space, each home will also have an in-ground pool.

A G-Ho development insider informs us that these homes are being built for the brothers behind C&R Building Supply, Mario and Michael Carosella, who have built their business from a small home remodeler in 1976 into one of the city’s largest lumber yards and construction supply firms.

They are certainly an exclamation point on the Center City residential building boom.
