We are completely delighted anytime we discover a local talent bringing something unique and different to Philly’s wedding scene—and that’s definitely the case with our discovery of Maddie Flanigan, an artist blogger, photographer, pattern maker and seamstress who’s teaching the loveliest lingerie-making workshops we ever did see.

It all goes down in her quaint Port Richmond studio, where she hosts birthday parties, bridal showers and just-for-fun workshops where guests get to create their own pretty bra or pair of high-waisted undies. Maddie guides you through the whole process, from cutting the pattern to running the sewing machine, so everyone walks away with a special piece of lingerie they built all on their own.

As far as bridal showers go, right now Maddie is sticking to panty parties only, since they’re much more user-friendly for people who have no previous sewing experience. (Of course, if your ‘maids are a bunch of sewing pros, you’re more than welcome to request a more advanced bra-making party instead.) The bride can pick out which fabric (lace, Lycra, printed) her group will use and Maddie will provide all of the necessary tools and materials—she’ll also fill the studio with snacks, drinks and a yummy lunch spread. Plus, since she’s a photographer too, Maddie will snap photos of your group throughout the day.

If you’re interested, you can shoot Maddie an email at maddie@madalynne.com and she’ll talk you through prices based on the size of your party and your catering needs; her studio can accommodate groups of 6-12 women.
