Hockey Dad Calls Late-Game Fight “Assault”

Ridley was losing to C.B. West 7-1 in the Flyers Cup last week. That’s when a massive fight broke out — sparked by Ridley, some parents say.

Last week, Central Bucks West and Ridley met in a Flyers Cup semifinal. C.B. West dominated the game, leading 7-1 in the third period. That’s when things got actually ugly.

As shown in videos posted to social media, a fight broke out with about seven minutes left in the game. People in the crowd were shouting “Fuck him up!” The brawl continued for a while, with one Ridley player even coming from off the ice to join.

The game was called at that point, and C.B. West was given the 7-1 win. A parent wrote on Facebook decrying the Ridley team: “Since he couldn’t win the game, he tried to sabotage our season!”

Now another parent of a C.B. West teen who was injured during the fight is calling it an assault.

“It wasn’t your standard hockey infraction,” Bob Philipps told the Bucks County Courier Times. “I still can’t find the words to describe what happened that night on the ice.” He says his son Shawn, a defenseman and captain on C.B. West, suffered a fractured nose and needed five stitches.

Ridley, meanwhile, says the hockey team is not governed by the school and it cannot punish any students. “But we have no leverage over this organization whatsoever,” superintendent Lee Ann Wentzel told the paper.

The Hatfield Township Police Department is investigating the incident. Anyone with info is asked to call 215-855-0903.
