U.S. Military: OK to Wear Uniforms to Pride

It's a first for openly gay service personnel

The Pentagon made a big announcement just in time for a West Coast gay pride celebration. It’s the first time that openly gay service members will be able to wear their uniforms in San Diego this weekend. There are plenty of guidelines, but the Pentagon issued a statement saying that openly gay personnel would be able to show their military pride while they celebrate gay pride on Saturday.

“Based on our current knowledge of the event and existing policies, we hereby are granting approval for service members in uniform to participate in this year’s parade,” Rene C. Bardorf, deputy assistant secretary of defense for community and public outreach, said in a memorandum released yesterday.
