Fans of the Big Gay Sketch Show got the chance to see Kate McKinnon make her debut on Saturday Night Live this weekend. The out comic appeared alongside Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara in a very funny shampoo sketch in which she played Penelope Cruz. For years, McKinnon’s been a member of New York’s Upright Citizen’s Brigade and has appeared in Funny or Die sketches.

McKinnon is the first openly lesbian comic to appear as a regular on SNL. Terry Sweeney was the first gay man to ever be featured when he appeared in the 1985-86 season.
