New Archbishop of Philadelphia

An announcement expected Tuesday to name a bishop from Denver to replace Rigali

Justin Rigali—the archbishop of Philadelphia that is leaving his post amidst the most recent sexual abuse scandal—is expected to issue a statement Tuesday to announce that Pope Benedict XVI has named Archbishop Charles J. Chaput as Rigali’s successor at the helm of Philadelphia’s archdiocese. Chaput has been the head of Denver’s archdiocese since 1997 and is the first Native American archbishop of an American Roman Catholic Church. [Inquirer]
