Santorum Bashes Gay Parents
In Iowa on Monday, former PA senator and possible presidential contender Rick Santorum spoke about family values. When he was asked whether same-sex couples make good parents, the ultraconservative responded by saying that “children need mothers and fathers.”
He also criticized single-parent households, saying that children have less opportunities when raised by single mothers or fathers. He said that two parents are better than one, according to the Iowa Independent, except when the couple is gay or lesbian. In that case, he is against it.
He’s also compared homosexuality to polygamy and adultery over the years. And he lost his incumbent race in Pennsylvania by the largest margin in history to Democrat Bob Casey.
Following the remarks, Fox News (a network for which he’s worked) reported that Santorum has created an exploratory committee for a possible presidential run in 2012. He made the official announcement on conservative talk show host Sean Hannity’s radio program, saying he’s filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to create what he calls a “candidate committee.”
“I am please that we have taken this important next step in the process,” said Santorum, “to potentially become a candidate for President of the United States.”
Since filing the paperwork he’s now able to participate in the first Republican presidential debate in Greenville, South Carolina. The debate is sponsored by Fox News.
