Grandmother Favors Marriage Equality
“My son is not an issue. He’s a person just like you,” says Iowa grandmother Jean Argus, in a very moving video she made in support of marriage equality. “He is my son. My little boy. And he is precious to me,” she says, explaining that while she didn’t always understand homosexuality, she is grateful to have lived to see her own gay son marry his partner in Massachusetts.
There’s power in this grandmother’s words. The senior citizen takes politicians to task for – as she says – using gay marriage as a way to advance their political agendas. She discusses the hurt she and her family feel when people make anti-gay statements. She also asks families to love and support their children no matter their sexual orientation.
