Good Work If You Can Get It

Gas co. pays for state senator’s Super Bowl trip. (Coincidentally, he opposes a Marcellus Shale drilling tax)

This Doesn’t Have an Appearance of Impropriety At All. State Senate President Pro Tem Joe Scarnati, who opposes imposing a severance tax on gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale—Pennsylvania, we’ll note, is the only major gas-drilling state without such a tax—and who, over the years, has taken $142,000 from gas interests, had an all-expenses-paid trip to the Super Bowl last week, courtesy of (wait for it) Consol Energy, the third-largest holder of Marcellus acreage.
