Taste: Dining Out: Where We’re Eating: Avenida

The historic Cresheim Cottage has a tasty new Latin flair.

Avenida
Mount Airy
Husbandandwife chefs Edgar and Kim Alvarez have turned the historic Cresheim Cottage into a modern, friendly LatinAmerican eatery. It’s the kind of place where a woman at the table next to you leans over and gushes, “Ohhh, is that the calamari? It looks delicious.” And it is — the friedcrisp rings are tossed with onions and jalapeños and topped with a bright tomatillo sauce. Also delicious is the queso fundido, with black beans and roasted chilies, and the pork pibil (pictured). Insider tip: Kids eat well here, too; the children’s menu includes chicken and cheese quesadillas, and veggie tacos with salsa and guac.
