Healthy Life: Philadelphia Turkey Trots for Thanksgiving 2009

Gobbler Run & Family Fun Walk, November 28, 2009
The local YMCA is inviting area runners to explore Camp Ockanickon’s scenic lakes and trails for a 5K walk/run that benefits summer camp scholarship programs for local kids. You can take your time wandering the trails with family, or shoot for the prestigious “Mighty Pilgrim of the Pines Award,” given to the fastest individual time.

Where: YMCA Camp Ockanickon, 1303 Stokes Road, Medford, NJ
Time: Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., race begins at 10:30 a.m.
Cost: $20, or $25 on day of race; for 12 and under, $10, or $15 day of race.

Northampton
Nazareth YMCA Pumpkin Pie 5K Run and Scenic Walk, November 26, 2009
The smell of the prizes at the end of this race will be enough to jump-start your engine Thanksgiving morning: top finishers in each age group get a free pumpkin pie, along with gift certificates to local businesses. They’re also giving out awards to the oldest and youngest runners there, as well as offering 1-mile fun walk that welcomes strollers and dogs, so be sure to bring the whole family.

Historic Turkey Trot 5K Run and Fitness Walk, November 28, 2009
This USATF-certified course, which draws almost 800 runners every year, runs along the Lehigh River and showcases some of Bethlehem’s historic landmarks, like the Colonial Industrial Quarter and the Burnside Plantation. Kids can get catch some of the educational action, too, with pre-race activities for runners’ children, DJ and prizes.
