The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) joins a string of local Penn hospitals that were named 2014 Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign.

CHOP earned the distinction thanks to its efforts to meet non-discrimination and training criteria that, according to HRC, “demonstrate its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients and their families.”

“CHOP has developed programs and resources to better address issues that are unique to children and families in our LGBT communities, including the recent opening of a clinic to serve the needs of gender-variant, gender-nonconforming and transgender children and youth up to 21 years of age and their families,” says CHOP’s Alison Fraser.

She’s talking about The Gender and Sexuality Development Clinic, which opened in January to serve the needs of gender-variant, gender-nonconforming and transgender children and youth up to 21 years of age and their families.

“CHOP,” says Fraser, “is one of a handful of pediatric hospitals with a formal program that serves this often underserved patient population.”
