BUY THESE: Summer’s Best LGBT-Empowering Tanks and Tees

Today, Queerty released its guide to the “Gayest and Greatest T-Shirts for Summer 2013,” and it includes lots of gems, like American Apparel and GLAAD’s LGBT-inclusive tee and tanky that was passed out at this year’s Philly Pride, and one made by Trophy Pony that hilariously reads “Thank Dolly Parton for God.”

While those are certainly great, there are a few that have been on our radar that didn’t quite make Queerty’s cut. Check out our own little list of must-haves after the jump: 

OUTspoken‘s Phillip Miner and Joe Sinness collaborated on this “Faggot Tank,” which “playfully conveys the history and meaning of the [f-word] and gives you the chance to reclaim it.” Miner says this is the first in what will hopefully be a line of tank tops that play with other label-slapping words we hear in the LGBT community, like “The Other ‘F’ Bomb,” “Gym Bunny” and “Pillow Biter.” Stay tuned. $30, outspokencollection.com.

Equality Pennsylvania created this “I’m a Rebel” tee to “declare an open rebellion against the inequality and injustice” that’s running rampant in Harrisburg these days. (Ahem, Darryl Metcalfe.) Sales benefit the work Equality PA is doing to bring civil rights to our state, so cop one online and help build the momentum. $15, limelightshirts.com.

The National Football League (NFL) and Athlete Ally teamed up this summer to create this One Team Pride tee that’s perfect for those of you playing in (or who have boyfriends playing in) the Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League. Each shirt features the name and number of ally NFLers, like Brendon Ayanbadejo, Chris Kluwe and Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin. All proceeds go to Athlete Ally, an organization that is working to end homophobia and transphobia in sports. $24.99, oneteamshop.com.

If you’re looking for something with that loud-and-tacky bit of Jersey Shore flare, you should have plenty of options in Wildwood. Earlier this year, The Philly Post did a roundup of the “10 Hottest Wildwood Boardwalk T-Shirts of 2013” and made sure to mention the ample supply of rainbow-toting tees emblazoned with phrases like, “Some People Are Gay, Get Over It” and, of course, “Twerk.” Various prices, on the Wildwood Boardwalk.

These aren’t T-shirts at all, but if you rock it just right (and extra loose), a skinny necktie could make a hot addition to your favorite tee. What’s that you say? All your ties are wide? You’re in luck. Brooklyn tailor Joshua Adam Brueckner recently started SKINNYFATTIES, his company that lets you send in your fat dad ties so he can tailor them into perfect little skinny ones. It’s a more economical way to replace those wide ties that are collecting dust in your closet, plus Brueckner donates $1 from each tie he tailors to Career Gear, a nonprofit that helps low-income men transition back into the workplace.
