WATCH: Transitioning From Rugby Jock to Glamazon Drag Performer

Local activist/performance artist Rudy Flesher shares his jersey-to-corset transformation in the latest installment of 'I'm From Driftwood.'

Most of us in the community know Rudy Flesher as an impassioned LGBT activist and as the tightly-corseted, gender-fucking performance artist Notorious O.M.G. But do you know the path he took to get there? The story may surprise you.

In the latest installment of “I’m From Driftwood (IFD),” the Brooklyn-based website that collects written and video stories of gay people from all over the world, Flesher opens up about his journey from rough-and-tumble rugby athlete living in Mount Laurel, N.J. to becoming one of Philadelphia’s most glitter-tastic drag performers. He also reveals that Rudy isn’t his real name and why his teammates stuck a tampon up his nose this one time on the playing field. Check out the video below.

Rudy is one of several Philadelphians who have been featured in the video. Click on the names below to see works featuring:

And while we’re on the topic of IFD, the site’s creator, Nathan Mankse, is throwing a rooftop summer BBQ in Brooklyn this weekend to raise funds for his lofty project, which aims to “help LGBTQ people learn more about their community, straight people learn more about their neighbors and everyone learn more about themselves through the power of storytelling and story sharing.” Rudy tells me that out-of-towners get a $25 discount if they use the code “TOURIST” when buying tickets and that he knows that a whole car full of Philly folks are roadtripping up to attend — including Marquise Lee, NSFW party organizer and videographer for IFD. You can find info and ticket links to the event here, and RSVP on Facebook to invite some of your pals.
