A new pop-up series is bringing a mobile beer garden to parks along the Schuylkill River Trail. Trails on Tap is a partnership between the nonprofit Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area and FCM Hospitality, which runs Philadelphia’s roving Parks on Tap beer gardens, and Mainstay Independent Brewing Company.

Trails on Tap will pop up in Pottstown Riverfront Park, Valley Forge National Historic Park, Royersford Riverfront Park, and Norristown Riverfront Park on select dates throughout the summer. Each beer garden is along the trail and parking is limited, so attendees are encouraged to arrive by bike or on foot when possible. Kids and leashed dogs are welcome.

In addition to brews from Mainstay Independent, Trails on Tap will offer hard seltzer from Two Robbers, white sangria made with Pennsylvania wine, and nonalcoholic drinks in addition to bites like pulled pork sandwiches, quinoa salad, hot dogs, and Lost Bread Co. cornbread, soft pretzels, and pretzel shortbread cookies. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area to support river protection and trail expansion efforts.

But Trails on Tap isn’t just about beer — it’s about helping folks enjoy the river and the trail, too. On weekend dates, the program will offer free kayak and bicycle rentals between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. for attendees who haven’t consumed alcohol.

At the Pottstown, Valley Forge, and Norristown sites, they’ll also offer the Pedal and Paddle program, a 4.5-mile bike ride on cruisers from Pottstown’s bike share program followed by a kayak ride back down the river to the beer garden, with gear, snacks, and guides included. Spots for the Pedal and Paddle program are $35 each and available for those aged 16 and older. Reserve spots in advance by calling 484-945-0200 or clicking here.

Trails on Tap will be at Pottstown Riverfront Park from June 26th through 30th, at Valley Forge National Historic Park July 3rd through 7th and 10th through 14th, at Royersford Riverfront Park from July 17th through 21st and 24th through 28th, and at Norristown Riverfront Park from July 31st through August 4th.
