Jerks Versus Jerk House

Today’s Philadelphia Inquirer features an ongoing battle of South Street’s Jamaican Jerk Hut against residents of the Symphony House at Broad and Pine (2+ blocks away).

Since 2009 the music has been silent at Jamaican Jerk Hut as the 20-year South Street survivor has waited for a zoning variance. The variance was granted in July but has been appealed to the Court of Common Pleas.

So that’s the reason why the lot owned by architects Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown has seen so little use over the past two summers.

Speechless.
